Rideau Canal National Historic Site of Canada
The oldest continuously operated canal in North America first opened in 1832. It is designated as a National Historic Site, a Canadian Heritage River and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the summer, take a trip down the river by cruise or paddle your way by kayak or canoe. In winter, the canal transforms into the world's largest skating rink. The Skateway begins just steps from Parliament Hill and continues to where you'll find an outdoor art gallery on ice! In between, warm up at rest areas, where there are toasty fires, hot drinks and tasty snacks.
