Delta Hotels and Resorts has once again been named to the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business annual 50 Best Employers in Canada, for the ninth year.
“We are so proud to once again join the ranks of Canada’s 50 Best Employers,” said Hank Stackhouse, President and CEO, Delta Hotels and Resorts. “At each and every Delta hotel, we strive to create a community where our employees feel as welcome as our guests do.”
The 50 Best Employers study measures employee engagement, not just satisfaction or benefits programs. Engagement is about employees’ level of commitment and accountability for improving business results.
“Engaging our employees – truly empowering them to deliver outstanding guest service – is a core part of our working culture at Delta,” explained Stackhouse. “Whether you are brand new to Delta or have been with us for 30 years, we want all of our employees to know that their personal contribution to guest satisfaction is what sets us apart from our competitors.”
Delta rose two places in the ranking to sit at 20 for 2010.
This year, the 50 Best Employers study also evaluated the organization’s corporate social responsibility program, considering the brand’s support of employee volunteer work in the community, charitable donations, and the implementation of environmentally responsible initiatives.
“Building strong communities is a key priority for our brand which is why we introduced our new Delta Helps CSR program early last year to align our efforts across the chain and even further strengthen our commitment to the community,” said Stackhouse. “Our employees have told us how important it is for them to connect with their communities and make a meaningful difference, and it is because of their passion and enthusiasm that together we raised over $750,000 and donated hundreds of volunteer hours to support our charitable causes.”
A leading Canadian hotel management company, Delta Hotels and Resorts operates and franchises a diversified portfolio with 44 full-service, city centre and airport hotels and resorts under the Delta brand. Widely regarded as Canada’s “brand of choice” by guests and owners, Delta also distinguishes itself as an exemplary employer. It is the only hotel company to have been recognized for its sustained focus on business excellence by the prestigious National Quality Institute with three Canada Awards for Excellence, including the award program’s highest honour, the Order of Excellence (2007). The company also consistently ranks as one of the country’s best employers in The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business annual “50 Best Employers” list (2001–2003, 2005–2010). As well, its Corporate Social Responsibility platform, Delta Helps, includes a chain-wide commitment to the communities it serves through a national partnership with Habitat for Humanity Canada, participation in the Hotel Association of Canada’s Green Key Eco-Rating program, and work with various other charitable groups.
