Casa Loma

Second only to the CN Tower in popularity, Casa Loma is Canada's famous castle and one of Toronto's most unique architectural spectacles. Casa Loma, or "House on the Hill" was the residence of Sir Henry Pellatt and his wife, Mary.  A pioneer in hydro electric power and one of a group of partners that built the first hydro-electric plant at Niagara Falls; Sir Henry spared no expense in building Casa Loma. He spent $3.5 million in 1911 to build it - the equivalent of $60 million in today's money.

Today, visitors are invited to tour the 170,000 square feet estate - complete with decorated suites, secret passages, an 800-foot tunnel, two towers, stables, 5-acres of estate gardens (open May through October) and a full scehdule of seasonal events.
