Designed by Maurice-Henri Perrault, Montreal City Hall was built in 1878, but was destroyed by fire in 1922. Its reconstruction was inspired by the city hall of Tours in France. From the balcony on the front facade of the building, Charles de Gaulle declaimed "Vive le Quebec libre!" to the great joy of the crowd below. The Hall of Honour presents exhibitions, conferences and other cultural events from time to time. Spectacular at night.
