Alberta’s capital city is home to more than just West Edmonton Mall,
the world’s largest. The self-proclaimed “Festival City” boasts some of
the oldest festivals in Canada-and some quirky attractions to boot.
Listen to the best of bluegrass, roots or world beat music at
North America’s best annual folk music festival. Relax to the sounds of
jazz at Canada’s longest running international jazz festival,
celebrating 25 years in 2004. Magicians, clowns, jugglers and mimes
take to the streets at the Edmonton International Street Performers
Festival. While more than 1,200 performers mount 30 stages during the
Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, a celebration not just
of theatre but of mime, music and dance too.
If festivals aren’t your thing, try to find your way through the twists
and turns of the eight-kilometre corn maze, designed in the shape of an
Edmonton Eskimos football player. Explore the vastness of space at the
Odyssium’s Space Place exhibition or the striking glass pyramids that
are the Muttart Conservatory.
